Letter: One film the Nikkei index probably won’t be copying

Katie Martin’s Long View (January 27) describes how Goldman Sachs’s chief US equity strategist asked a group of fund managers if they knew the origins of the “Magnificent Seven” term to describe top tech stocks. But did David Kostin — a film buff apparently — also know The Magnificent Seven film was itself based on the 1954 Japanese classic Seven Samurai? Swap the guns for swords and hope the Nikkei 225 doesn’t commit hara-kiri or seppuku.
